SNOOP Synopsis
Eight-year-old HOWIE COOPER is a certifiable nerd, but there’s one thing he does better than anyone: snoop out Christmas presents. When “Cool Kid” CHUCK tells Howie he can’t be the world’s greatest snooper unless he snoops on SANTA CLAUS. Howie vows to do just that. And he will prove it by taking photos of what Chuck’s getting for Christmas.
Howie and chubby pal TATER set about finding a way to the North Pole. They hit the jackpot when they discover on Howie’s rooftop chimney, under a suspicious panel a big red button labeled “Emergency.” Howie presses it. A reindeer appears soaring on the horizon. It lands on Howie’s roof, the boys mount, and they fly to the North Pole.
Before they can locate Santa’s Workshop, they are waved down by a six-foot tall elf named BUB. They meet with him in his igloo. He promises to escort them to Santa. Bub we have seen already but the boys do not know is a renegade determined to take Santa down by destroying his reputation. His master plan is to steal Santa’s list of who’s been naughty and nice, then put all the names in the naughty column. But Bub is having great trouble stealing the list without getting caught.
Bub uses Howie and Tater to sneak back inside the Workshop in search of the list. The boys are apprehended by guards. Through trickery and snooping, Howie and Tater manage to escape. They skulk about the Workshop, discovering storage rooms for Pet Stuff, Girl Stuff, Boy Stuff and Cash Gifts. But Santa finds them. He interrogates the boys, then sends them home with an admonition: no more snooping.
At home, Howie is depressed. If he’s not the world’s greatest snooper, what is he but a simple nerd? One afternoon in class, the large classroom window suddenly shatters. In flies Bub on the back of a reindeer. Having again failed to get Santa’s list, Bub needs Howie’s mad snooping skillz. He convinces Howie to return to the North Pole to help with something that “only the world’s greatest snooper” can.
Back at the North Pole, Bub deceives Howie into stealing for him Santa’s list. By the time Howie uncovers Bub’s evil plot, all seems lost. Howie has alienated Tater, defied Santa and set in motion what appears will result in the end of Christmas forever.
But when Howie sets his ego aside to ask for help, he can save the day yet. This will involve a harrowing reindeer chase with a firefight of lumps of coal from a sling shot and snowballs in return. But in the end, Christmas must be saved. And Bub must get his due.
